BOOKr Counselor

Greetings and welcome to BOOKr VIP Help! It takes a lot of courage to ask for help and just by coming to this site, you’ve taken the first step towards change. As a counselor I am here to support and empower you as you take that step. Whether you work with me or another counselor, I hope you find what you are looking for.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Pennsylvania (soon to be dual licensed in the state of Ohio) with over 20 years of experience. I have helped individuals with a wide variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, post-partum, eating disorders, self-harm, and relationship issues. I also have training in working with individuals who have experienced trauma or abuse.

My counseling style is warm and empathetic. I believe in treating everyone with respect and compassion. I also believe that YOU are the expert on you and your needs, so I will let you set the pace for counseling. I will encourage you to grow, but will never push you more than you are ready for. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, and solution-focused therapy. I will tailor our dialog and treatment goals to meet your unique and specific needs.

I look forward to working with you & regardless of who you choose to work with remember that you are worth the change you are seeking!

Melissa is absolutely fantastic with addressing topics/issues/personal problems & strategically sorting through them one by one. From day to day matters that arise to things left undone in the past, Melissa tackles each matter with kindness & compassion.

One of the weaknesses of synchronous (live, face-to-face) therapy is its inefficiency. The therapist might ask a challenging question and it might take the remainder of the (45-minute?) session to work through the answer. Then, the session is done, you’ve accomplished little, and you wait a week for further progress (during which any progress may or may not regress).

Melissa eliminates this problem by leveraging asynchronous therapy, and Melissa knows how to use this to the benefit of the client. We can accomplish 3 or 4 deep, challenging back-and-forth dialogues in the same time (and cost) that it would take to cover one short topic in a face-to-face environment, because we’re not constrained by one short session. In fact, I am the bottleneck in this relationship more often than she is, as she is astoundingly quick to respond with helpful information, and I’m the one who needs to find time to thoughtfully evaluate and respond to her questions.

2 months in, this has been the most efficient and effective therapy experience that I have ever been a part of.

Super knowledgeable and professional. She seems like she actually cares about helping you, and has alot of resources to help.

I was iffy about starting to speak with a counselor online, but as I began to speak regularly with Melissa, I realized this was the best decision I could have made. Melissa is very insightful and gives me a chance to figure things out for myself. She helps push me in the right direction with my thoughts. Also, being a Christian myself, it is so awesome that she is able to provide me with insights that are grounded in spirituality as well. She is truly wonderful!!
